Creating a comfortable and stimulating work space
McDonalds Head office in Auckland originally occupied two floors on Great South Road in Greenlane. They decided to change the traditional workplace to ABW (Activity Based Working) so the 55 staff members were reallocated to only one of the floors totaling 650sqm.
By optimizing the way the staff works it was possible to reduce the area, creating a comfortable and stimulating workspace. On one side, small meeting rooms can be used as a quiet space for focused work. Allowing on the opposite side, to create a team zone with a spacious cafeteria where the collab table is easily transformed into a pool table.
At first, the staff were hesitant with the changes but after the move, the feedback changed: the space was great and they could pick the desk that best suited the lighting need for the activity of that particular day and also the air conditioning temperature as per their preferences.
